Who the Relatives of the Prophet Are?
وَاعْلَمُوا اَنَّمَا غَنِمْتُمْ مِن شَیْء فاِنَّ لِلّٰہِ خُمُسَہُ ولِلرَّسُولِ ولِذِی القُربٰی(الانفال:41).
(And know that whatever you acquire as booty, a fifth is for Allah and for the Messenger and for the Messenger’s relatives).
This verse also makes it clear who the relatives of the Prophet are? That is, the relatives are those to whom the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to give a share in the booty and the Fay, and they are Banu Hashim and Banu Muttalib.
Banu Hashim refers to the family of Ali, the family of Abbas, the family of Ja’far, the family of Aqeel and the family of Harith, and the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) himself belonged to this family. Abdul Muttalib had greatly helped Banu Hashim in the pre-Islamic period and in Islam and had also agreed to be imprisoned with them in the gorge.
These people were fully in support of the Holy Prophet. The Muslims among them were due to their obedience to Allah and His Messenger, and those who did not believe at that time were due to the favoritism of their families and the support of their relations and ties. As for Banu Shams and Banu Nawfal, although they were also cousins of the Holy Prophet; but they were not in support of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) at that time; rather, their allegiance was with all the tribes of Quraysh who had together boycotted the family of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Hazrat Jubayr bin Mut’im (narrator of the hadith) and Hazrat Uthman bin Affan belonged to Banu Nawfal and Banu Abd Shams respectively, and the Holy Prophet did not include them in the Khums.
Ban Hashim and Banu Muttalib Are Superior to all others
The relatives of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) (Ban Hashim and Banu Muttalib) are superior to all others due to their honorable kinship with the Holy Prophet and their support and assistance in the beginning of Islam; but it is not permissible to be too extreme in their love for them to elevate them to the status of prophethood or the status of infallibility. The status of infallibility is a distinction of the prophets. Similarly, their absolute superiority does not mean that there is no one else superior to them in knowledge and virtue; rather, the three caliphs are superior to all other members of the Ummah, despite the fact that Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) is distinguished among the three caliphs in some respects.
Wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had special mercy and blessings upon his wives. Allah, the Almighty, granted them the status of the “first women” of the Ummah. He made them role models and leaders for all women around the world, saying: “O wives of the Prophet, you are not like any other woman” (Al-Ahzab: 32). O wives of the Prophet, you are not like any other woman.
Allah Almighty made their homes the places of revelation (the place of revelation), saying: And remember what is recited in your homes of the verses of Allah and wisdom (Al-Ahzab: 34).
When Allah Almighty granted these wives this highest status, He also advised them to be mindful of their status and rank and to avoid Allah’s displeasure. He said: O wives of the Prophet! Whoever among you commits an act that deviates from his status and rank, for him will be a double punishment. And that is easy for Allah (Al-Ahzab: 30). The purpose of all these things was to bestow the Prophet’s family with the highest degree of purification from all impurities and defects. He said: “Allah only desires to remove impurity from you, O people of the house, and to purify you with a thorough purification.” (Al-Ahzab: 33) (Allah only desires that you should follow the instructions given and remove impurity from your houses and purify you completely.)

In their commentary on the verse, Hazrat Ikrimah, Ata, Muqatil and Saeed bin Jubayr said with reference to Ibn Abbas that the meaning of the Ahl al-Bayt is only the pure wives. The evidence is that in all the verses of the context and the context, only the pure wives are mentioned (Tafsir Baghwi and Tafsir Ibn Kathir, Surah Al-Ahzab: 33).
Hazrat Ikrimah used to announce in the markets that the meaning of the Ahl al-Bayt in the verse is the wives of the Prophet (peace be upon him), because this verse was revealed in their honor, and he would say that he is ready to perform Mubahala on her (Tafsir al-Qurtubi and Ibn Kathir, Tafsir al-Ahzab: 33).
There is no doubt that this verse was revealed in honor of the wives of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and that is what is meant by the Ahl al-Bayt; but this does not contradict the fact that some other people (son-in-laws and children of the children) should also be included in the Ahl al-Bayt; so this is the opinion of Ibn Kathir. In this sense, the Ahl al-Bayt includes all the sons-in-law of the Prophet (peace be upon him) (Hazrat Abu al-Aas, Hazrat Uthman and Hazrat Ali), daughters (Hazrat Zainab, Hazrat Ruqayyah, Hazrat Umm Kulthum and Hazrat Fatima) and the children of the daughters (Hazrat Zainab’s children: Hazrat Umamah and Hazrat Ali, and Hazrat Fatima’s children: Hazrat Hasan, Hussain, Zainab and Umm Kulthum).
The greatness of the Ahlul Bayt
Who can deny the greatness and high status of the Companions and the Ahlul Bayt (may Allah be pleased with them all) in the religion of Islam? These are the same pure beings whom the Lord of the Worlds chose to be the companions of His Prophet, whose eyes beheld the radiant face of the Prophet, who benefited from the grace of prophethood in the right way, through whose intercession and sacrifices the religion reached us, we gained the knowledge of the Quran and Hadith and we succeeded in reaching the destination of the knowledge of truth. Therefore, just as believing in the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and loving him is essential and necessary for every Muslim, similarly loving the Companions and especially the Ahlul Bayt is also a part of faith and a part of the teachings of Islam, without which religion is incomplete and incomplete.
These gentlemen are the heralds of the religion of Islam, the guardians and guardians of the Holy Quran, and the interpreters and translators of the blessed hadiths, who are the bearers of high morals and character, and are the bearers of courage and determination, courage and protection, truthfulness and fearlessness.
They are also always busy in the propagation and spread of Islam, constantly striving for the reform and education of the nation, and are eager for the success and victory of the nation in this world and the Hereafter. From the time of the passing of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) until Karbala, there is a golden continuity of the unforgettable services and deeds of the Ahlul Bayt (may Allah be pleased with them) of calling and preaching, jihad and self-sacrifice, and martyrdom and sacrifice, which will continue to be mentioned until the Day of Judgment, God willing.
There is no doubt that the closer one is to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), the more respect and love one has for him. By nature, a person loves his wives and children. Therefore, while we are commanded to love the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), we are also commanded to love his family, children, and companions. In short, the issue of loving the Ahl al-Bayt and the family of the Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) has never been a matter of dispute among the Ummah. Their love and greatness are obligatory by consensus. Disagreements arise where the greatness of others is attacked. Otherwise, as the family of the Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), their love and greatness are the true happiness and reward. This is the belief and religion of the majority of the Ummah.
It is worth mentioning that the Ahlul Bayt of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) includes the wives of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) (whose number is eleven), the Tayyabat (their descendants) (whose number is seven), and the family and children of Banu Hashim; because the Holy Quran has called only the wives of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) the Ahlul Bayt; therefore, the word “Ahlul Bayt” mentioned in the verse of purification of Surah Ahzab has been used for the wives of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and the first instance of it is the wives of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), the context and context of this Holy Verse also require the same. Also, in other Holy Verses of the Holy Quran (Surah Hud and Surah Al-Qasas), the wife (housewife) has been called Ahlul Bayt. And the same statement of Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (RA) is also narrated under this verse (the verse of purification). (Fath al-Qadeer).
Rights of the Ahl al-Bayt
The virtues of the Ahl al-Bayt (RA) have been mentioned in abundance in the hadiths, works and sayings of the companions (RA). In the famous books of hadith and biography, chapters have been established on their virtues and virtues and their virtues are mentioned in great detail. Along with this, some of their rights have also been mentioned in the blessed hadiths.
Ahl al-Bayt (RA) should be honored and respected
The most important right among these rights is that the Ahl al-Bayt (RA) should be honored and respected, respected and honored as they deserve, mentioned well, connected and related to them and treated with special love and devotion. Because having love and faith in the Ahlul Bayt (may Allah be pleased with them) is the cause of achieving perfect faith. In a hadith, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said in a very eloquent and effective manner, in response to the complaint of Hazrat Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him), “By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, faith will not enter the heart of a person unless he loves you (the Ahlul Bayt) for the sake of gaining the love and happiness of Allah Almighty and His Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). (Tirmidhi).
Loving the Ahlul Bayt is an Evidence of loving Allah and His Messenger
In fact, loving the Ahlul Bayt is an evidence of loving Allah and His Messenger. In a hadith, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Love Allah, for He is the One Who provides you with His blessings and sustains you. Love me out of love for Allah, and love my Ahlul Bayt out of love for me.” (Tirmidhi) On one occasion, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) addressed his beloved daughter, Hazrat Fatima (may Allah be pleased with her), and commanded the entire Ummah to love and be loyal to the holy wives, especially Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her). The words of the hadith are: “My dear daughter! Do you not love the one I love? Hazrat Fatima (may Allah be pleased with her) said, “Why not? (I love her completely.)” Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “Then you also love Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her).” (Bukhari and Muslim).
Adopt their character and actions
The second important right of the Ahlul Bayt (may Allah be pleased with them) is to adopt their character and actions, and to follow them in religious matters, because after the Holy Quran, the Ahlul Bayt (may Allah be pleased with them) are the only ones worthy of obedience and following. The emphasis and desire to follow them has been expressed in a very effective manner in the blessed hadiths. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) has given the Muslim Ummah this good news that I am leaving this world; but I am leaving among you the Holy Quran and my family.
As long as you hold on to them after me, you will never go astray. One of them is greater than the other, and that is the Book of Allah (the Holy Quran) and it is the rope of Allah that stretches from the heavens to the earth, and the other (thing) is my children, my family. (Tirmidhi) In this hadith, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) emphasized the importance of following the Holy Quran and the Ahlul Bayt, because the Ahlul Bayt, may Allah be pleased with them all, were followers of the Sunnah to the highest degree, and in this sense, their following was also a form of following the Sunnah.
This also shows that if anything is attributed to the Ahlul Bayt that is against the clear command of the Quran and Sunnah, it will definitely not be believed. Using the command of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to follow the Ahlul Bayt, the Shiites have attributed many things to the Ahlul Bayt that are absolutely contrary to reality. The Ahlul Bayt are completely free from such false and fabricated things, and it is not permissible for the Ummah to trust such things. In addition to the above-mentioned rights, the Ahlul Bayt, may Allah be pleased with them, have some other minor and major rights, among which the rights of ‘benevolence and mutual assistance’ and ‘support and cooperation’ are the foremost.
The Struggles of the Prophet’s Household
The sacrifices of the pure Household in their struggle and their efforts in the field of religion are boundless and incalculable; because these gentlemen are the special guides of the pure Household, may Allah be pleased with them all, and are blessed with the exemplary training of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Like the government of the two worlds (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), the life of his household was also full of asceticism and struggle.
At every opportunity of sacrifice, he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and his household were ahead and at every opportunity of profit, they were behind. It is narrated in the narrations that he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) gave servants to his companions; but he did not give them to his own daughter, Hazrat Fatimah al-Zahra (may Allah be pleased with her), despite her need; rather, he ordered her to adhere to the glorification and remembrance of Allah, and described her as better than a servant. (Bukhari Sharif).
The wives of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) were extremely content and patient women, often living a life of poverty and deprivation. After the conquest of Khaibar, when the Muslims became financially prosperous, the wives of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), who were obviously not prophets and people of revelation, but were simply members of the Ummah, naturally thought that now our maintenance should also be reasonably increased, and they expressed this desire to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and with a little demand. There was even a hint of worldly pursuits to torment the blessed heart of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and these verses were revealed to him. This authority was given to give; but after it was granted, not a single wife from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) preferred worldly pleasures, and all of them remained attached to Allah and the Messenger.
Imam Ibn Majah has narrated a tradition in the book of temptations under the chapter of the emergence of the Mahdi. Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We were sitting with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), while some young men from Banu Hashim came. When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saw them, his eyes filled with tears and his complexion changed. I said: We always see something in your face that we do not like (i.e., your sadness always shocks us). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “We are from a family for whom Allah has preferred the Hereafter to this world. Soon after me, my household will be afflicted with hardship, hardship, expulsion and exile. Until some people will come from the east, with black flags, they will ask for good (treasures). If the people do not give them, they will fight the people, and they will be helped (by Allah), then what they asked for will be given to them (i.e., the people will be pleased with their rule). They will not accept the kingdom for themselves at that time until they give the kingdom and the treasure to a man from my family, who will fill the earth with justice as the people filled it with injustice. So whoever of you lives in that time, let him join them (in the army), even if he has to walk on his knees in the snow.
